I finished putting my Max By Weider Ultra System together last night. This is the system previously known as the Crossbow, and these are my impressions. For under $330 delivered, half the cost of a basic Bowflex Motivator 2, you get a solid, attractive, and well-functioning home gym. The Max operates on the same flexible rod principle as the Bowflex and offers a comparable level of functionality. And, like the Bowflex, it folds up when not in use. The base Bowflex carries a 3-year warranty, the Max 5 years. Both warrant the flexible rods for the life of the machine. Unlike weight-based systems, resistance from the flexible rods, called "resistance rods" by Weider and "power rods" by Bowflex, increases through your range of motion. The difference is modest but noticeable. The Max comes with up to 240 lbs of resistance, the Motivator with a comparable 210 lbs. The Max allows an upgrade to 440 lbs, but you have to buy a pricier Bowflex in order to upgrade. Amazon delivered the Max via 2-day DHL in a large heavy box. Assembly required several hours and was easily accomplished with a Philips head screwdriver, a spanner set, and the two Allen wrenches included in the package. The instructions state you need two people and a rubber hammer, but I found assembly was easily accomplished without assistance, and I have no idea what they want you to do with the hammer -- it was never again mentioned.

The weider max was easy to put together and easy to use. the advantage of this machine over free weights is that u'r balanced and it's not as easy to get injured. the machine forces u to be balanced so u dont have to worry about positioning urself as much because u kind of have to if ur using the machine. it's also much cheaper then the bowflex machines and does basicly the same stuff.

Great System and very versatile, January 18, 2008
It takes a few sessions to get used to the resistance but I have found it to be great. I used to be a powerlifter/bodybuilder and have taken too much time off (4 years!) While I don't think you can get those kinds of results with this machine, I am sore after every use and that is what's needed to see growth in muscles. I have also not maxed out on the resistanceas some others have said and I am starting off in decent shape. Great leg, chest, back, arm workout machine for the money. (I would still rate it as great if I had paid twice as much)
